چکیده

SUMMARY The self-timed pipeline (STP) is one of the most promising VLSI/SoC architectures. It achieves efficient utilization of tens of billions of transistors, consumes ultra low power, and is easy-to-design because of its signal integrity and low electromagnetic interference. These basic features of the STP have been proven by the development of self-timed data-driven multimedia processors, DDMP's. This paper proposes a novel scheme of interacting self-timed (clockless) pipelines by which the various distributed and interconnected pipelines can achieve highly functional stream processing in future giga-transistor chips. The paper also proposes a set of elementary coupling control modules that facilitate various combinations of flow-thru processing between pipelines, and then discusses the practicality of the proposed scheme through the LSI design of application modules such as a priority-based queue, a mutual interconnec-tion network, and a pipelined sorter.

Latency and Throughput Tradeoffs in Self-Timed Speed-Independent Pipelines and Rings

Asynchronous pipelines control the flow of tokens through a sequence of logical stages based on the status of local completion detectors. As in a synchronously clocked circuit, the design of self-timed pipelines can trade off between achieving low latency and high throughput. However, there are more degrees of freedom because of the variances in specific latch and function block styles, and the...

DFT for fast testing of self-timed control circuits

In this paper, we present a methodology to performfast testing of the control path of self-timed circuits [91. The speedup is achieved by testing all the execution paths in the control simultaneously. The circuits considered in this paper are those designed using an OCCAM based circuit compiler [2]. This Compiler translates an OCCAM pro gram description into an interconnection of pre-existing s...

Performance Comparison of Clocked and Asynchronous Pipelines

Clock (synchronous) and self-timed (asynchronous) represent the two principal methodologies associated with timing control and synchronization of digital systems. In this paper, clocked and the asynchronous instruction and arithmetic pipelines are modeled and compared. The approach, which yields the best performance is dependent on technology parameters, operating range and pipeline algorithm c...

Bubbles Can Make Self-Timed Pipelines Fastt

We explore the practical limits on throughput imposed by timing in a long, self-timed, circulating pipeline (ring). We consider models with both fixed and random delays and derive exact results for pipelines where these delays are fixed or exponentially distributed random variables. We also give relationships that provide upper and lower bounds on throughput for any pipeline where the delays ar...

Investigating the mediating role of self-control in the relationship between coping styles and self-concept of elementary school students

The aim of the research was to investigate the mediating role of self-control in the relationship between coping styles and self-concept of elementary school students in Ardakan. The present study was descriptive-correlational which was performed using Path Analysis. The statistical population consisted of all first-grade male students in Ardakan. Using the cluster sampling method, 330 people w...
